Don’t be amazed when the sky starts to drop
Don’t be transfixed by what lies in the road
If it’s not ours to ask why, who checks and balances
The cosmic show?
I’ve been off on a bender again
Turning off all the lights in my head with new friends
But every morning I awake with the same eyes
The same caustic ties
The same easy, automatic sleepwalk
Small talk and slighter job
There will never be a time to truly coast
It will be easier the sooner you stop comparing notes
You cognitively dissonant ghost
Undress in the snow
And learn how to be cold
Don’t be amazed when the sky starts to drop
You will remain through all forks in the road
You must return to your task
Of checking and balancing
